This week’s blog assignment for the Unstoppable adventure I’m on is to formulate my purpose and values. There are processes that are discussed in The Way of the SEAL by Mark Divine, as well as other sites. This is what I have figured out so far.

My Values

These were easily identifiable for me, based not just on the exercises exploring stand and passion, but also through reflecting on my life experiences. My values - the things that are important in the way I live and work - include:

  • Love and relationships
  • Family and community
  • Empathy and compassion
  • Servant leadership
  • Curiosity and adventurousness
  • Open-mindedness and enlightenment
  • Simplicity and positivity
  • Integrity and honesty
  • Trust in instinct

My Purpose

We are instructed to come up with our purpose in life based on reflecting on our life and looking back on our stand and passion. Between my values, passion, and stand, I see a lot of overlap in qualities and what could lead to my purpose. There’s a statement in my first draft of my stand that I think captures my life in one statement:

Make this world a better place by using my God-given talents to better serve the good of mankind.

While I haven’t really talked much about my spiritual background, I was raised in a Catholic family, and my parents always instilled on us the importance of gratitude for what we have and paying it forward by using our God-given talents to help others. While I am no longer religious, there is still a presence of God in my spiritual realm. I’ve taken what my parents taught me to heart, and I do a lot of paying it forward by putting my talents to work. It’s pretty much what my work is all about, if you look at my past, where I am today, and where I’m going in the future.

Conclusion

I have posted my complete set point so that everyone who visits this site can learn more about my set point and get more insight on me. This exercise has been introspective and challenging, yet it really reveals a lot about who I am.
